KCC Skills Programme:
A 5 day introductory training programme designed to support individuals who have an interest in the construction industry. The programme introduces learners to key construction skills, builds confidence and provides routes to employment.
Course Schedule
Day 1 - Introduction, Briefing and Manual Handling
Introduction to the programme, learner expectations, safeguarding, equality and diversity, and health & safety briefing. Manual Handling – Teaches safe lifting techniques, reducing injury risks, and complying with workplace health & safety regulations. Includes practical demonstrations.
Day 2 - COSHH Awareness & Fire Awareness
COSHH Awareness training providing an understanding of hazardous substances, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations, correct use of PPE, and safe storage/handling of chemicals. Fire Awareness Covers fire prevention, types of extinguishers, evacuation procedures, and emergency response to workplace fire incidents.
Day 3 - Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
Accredited one-day course covering CPR, shock, unconscious casualties, and minor injuries. Equips learners to act as workplace first aiders.
Day 4 - Traffic Marshal (Banksman) Training
In-house course covering roles, responsibilities, communication methods, and safe signalling for directing vehicles on construction sites.
Day 5 - Health & Safety Awareness
Learners gain knowledge of health and safety regulations in construction, risk assessment, hazard identification, and the responsibilities of workers and employers.
