Why Your SMSTS Certificate Needs Refreshing in 5 Years

One of the main reasons why your certificate will need renewing is so that you can be updated on the changes to the Health and Safety Regulations. These regulations can change frequently and a renewal course will help to inform you of all of these changes and how they will affect you on a daily basis in your work.

This is very important because if you are not aware of a change that has been made and you are still following old health and safety standards when newer ones have been put in place, you could be putting your staff at risk. Keeping your certifications up to date will help to prevent the injuries and illness of your employees.

The health and safety industry is always changing and whenever an accident occurs, investigations can help to reveal a safer way of doing things. New equipment and materials can also be introduced into the workplace, which can sometimes present brand new health and safety risks that would not have been considered five years ago when taking the first course.

Also, it is important to take a refresher for your CITB qualification every five years in order to help you and your organisation achieve legal compliance for health and safety. This means that when you have all of your refresher certification up to date, you will be protected against legal action in the case of an accident. The SMSTS refresher course will update you on all changes in health and safety legislation, as well as best working practices and approved codes and safety standards.

Another reason is that, as human beings, we have a tendency to forget details over time. Be honest, do you really remember everything you learned in your original training course if it was several years ago? A refresher will give you a chance to study those important points again so that they are clear and fresh in your mind when you are on the job.

It is your on-going responsibility to ensure that you are kept up to date with the current health and safety issues and requirements in the industry.
