Case study

Highbury Corner Tunnels

Role Group won the prestigious contract for the Highbury Corner project to provide skilled and experienced rail operatives to the TfL’s Structures and Tunnels Investment Portfolio (STIP). The project involved the demolition and reconstruction of Highbury Corner bridge, which carries the A1 highway. This was successfully completed with minimal disruption and replacement took place during a short 20-day road closure. The road over rail bridge sits over 2 busy rail lines and the Highbury & Islington Overground station, and despite the complexities of the project, the build resulted in a minimal 195-hour rail possession. The works included the installation of the new steel bridge deck, steel work, abutment refurbishment, overhead line equipment works, concrete deck installation, traffic management and finishing works. The project was successfully completed on time thanks to the experienced members of the joint venture and their dedication to collaboration.
